ABOUT

The Wave is an all electric high-speed vehicle capable of 150MPGe per charge.

Detailed Description:
The WAVE II is a two-door two-passenger vehicle created by Li-ion Motors Corp. Utilizing large format Lithium-ion cells with their proprietary Battery Management System (BMS) and proprietary LiV electric power train systems has set them apart from competitors. The aerodynamic design makes it possible to go 150MPGe per charge with a charge time of 6hrs or less.

FORM/IMPACT/CONTEXT

Form
The aerodynamics achieved on the WAVE II is a product of many hours of engineering and time in the wind tunnel. The WAVE II boasts a coefficient drag of 0.157, numbers thought only possible with something more resembling a motorcycle. The Li-ion Motors WAVE II is a vehicle that has all the creature comforts we have grown used to such as heating, air conditioning, power windows, GPS etc. and can still transport a week's worth of groceries and more in the rear of the vehicle. The starting range with the minimum battery pack comes in at approximately 150 miles and can be expanded to up to 250 miles per charge. Door-mounted cameras with LCD display screens on the dash, replace conventional rear view mirrors. The covered front and rear wheels and a teardrop shaped body reduce aerodynamic drag. It has a 25.8 kWh Lithium Ion battery mated to an AC-24-LS electric motor and a DMOC 445 controller.

Impact
The company was started with the hopes of creating a reliable, high performance, extended range, all electric vehicles so that the next generation can break the bonds of oil dependency.

Context
Li-ion patented battery management system (BMS) is what sets their EV technology apart from other competitors. The team continues to improve upon their technology with its' new "Smart" BMS system which will improve efficiency by an additional 10-20%. Li-ion Motors has been testing and developing and their technology for the past 7 years, long before the green money era. Li-ion not only intends to manufacturer their own models but to license their technology to auto manufacturers world-wide in order to enable automakers the ability to produce all electric vehicles without spending millions on research and development. By licensing their technology, Li-ion hopes to help improve the carbon footprint globally, sooner rather than later.

Other relevant information
The team consist of automobile designers, mechanical engineers, chemists, electrical engineers, auto racers and fabricators, all brought together for the cause of relieving oil dependency for the next generation and their love of the automobile.

BUSINESS

Proven and/or potential effects:
The WAVE II won the Progressive Automotive X-Prize for the Alternative Side-by-Side class. The two year competition included 136 teams from 11 different countries. After 2 years of vigorious testing the WAVE II outperformed global competition and well known automakers because of Li-ion's advanced technology and patented battery management system.
